Shock Waves from Optically Detected Meteors

Supervisor: Dr. Peter Brown

Project Description (Abstract):

This project involves examination of infrasonic (low frequency) airwave signals produced by cm-sized meteoroids penetrating deeply into Earth’s atmosphere. The purpose of the project is to estimate the fraction of energy deposited into meteoroid shock waves. Data from Western’s All  sky fireball camera network will be examined and correlated with acoustic signals from the Elginfield Infrasound Array.

The research will require signal analysis and processing using Matlab.
